The iOptron CEM40-NUC Center Balanced Mount Head proves that iOptron has done it again! Using ideas and engineering applied to a time tested design, the iOptron CEM40-NUC brings you the next generation Center Balanced Equatorial mount. An elegant CNC body is the first indicator the CEM40-NUC is a top quality mount; you will find this is true in both its form and its function. Utilizing clever engineering, they were able to provide the iOptron CEM40-NUC Center Balanced Mount Head with an incredible 2.30 payload-to-mount weight ratio. This heavy-duty mount can precisely GO-TO an object and track it with up to 40 lb of gear on-board, but while the Head weighs only 17.4 lb. An amazing feat.
The concept of the "NUC" (stands for "Next Unit of Computing") was designed and introduced by Intel Corporation; first launched in early 2013. The NUC has since developed over ten generations. The NUC motherboard usually measures approximately 4" by 4" (10.16 cm by 10.16 cm), which tends to promote a small sized package. NUC is a line of small-form-factor barebone computer kits or custom-configured computer modules which can be structured in various ways, to satisfy a customer's specific needs. Various versions of a NUC computer are now available for purchase via the internet.
A true barebone NUC kit consist of the board, in a plastic case with a fan, an external power supply, and a VESA mounting plate. Intel will sell just the NUC motherboards, which have a built-in CPU. The user can configure the rest per their need. This does require some detailed computer knowledge. Third-party cases for NUC boards are also available.
The iOptron NUC mounts feature a bracket located at the lower front position of the saddle which will securely hold the NUC mini-computer in place. They have provisions for the mount control connections (LAN and USB) and power (19 Volts or optional 12 Volts DC) located next to the NUC computer.
NOTE: This Mount does NOT include a NUC mini-computer! The user must provide and install a NUC mini-computer.
The iOptron CEM40-NUC Center Balanced Mount delivers a Periodic Error of less than ±7 arcsecond, (based upon measurements the manufacturer has made with the encoder on the bench, with a 348 second period). This will give you the precision tracking you need for the best possible astro-imaging results, along with a great payload capacity and easy operation. The superb mechanical construction and choice of premium drive components for this mount provides the tracking and slewing performance you expect from iOptron. Retaining the inherent properties of the center balance design, this relatively compact medium payload mount delivers what astronomers expect in an efficient accurate portable mount. With precise GOTO pointing and accurate tracking (PE < ±7 arcsec) the CEM40-NUC is a solid tracking mount for both observers and imagers.
Large levers are included on the quick-lock drive engagement system. These levers make it easy to snap its drive gears into place even when wearing gloves. There is little chance of your cables getting snagged with the CEM40-NUC's internal advanced cable management system. This iOptron CEM40-NUC Center Balanced Mount Head is the ideal, easy-to-use Center Balanced GoTo mount system for heavier telescopes or imaging systems, in the up-to 40 lb range, which will satisfy all your observing and astro-imaging needs for years to come.
A new, patent-pending Universal Self-Centering Saddle (USCS) accommodates both the Losmandy and Vixen style dovetail plates. CEM40-NUC mounts utilize reliable stepper motor drive systems for accurate pointing and tracking. These motors have a low power-consumption technology. A 212,000+ object library with star identification, GPS, a few of the desirable features standard on a CEM40-NUC mount.
