ZWO ASI294MM USB3.0 Mono Astronomy Camera - ASI294MM

The ZWO ASI294MM Monochrome Planetary Camera includes the Sony IMX492 back-illuminated CMOS image sensor.  The 4/3" format with a pixel size of 4.63um is ideal for a wide variety of telescopes.  

This small-format monochrome camera also offers 14-bit ADC, a high QE value of about 90% at its peak, and low readout noise of only 1.2e, making it a great camera for planetary imaging!

The full well capacity of the ASI294MM is a whopping 66387ke, ensuring up to 13 stops of dynamic range.  When HCG-mode is turned on (automatic when gain value is set to 120), the dynamic range stays the same but the readout noise is greatly reduced.

With a native resolution of 4144 x 2822, this camera can also operate in Bin 1 mode, which doubles the resolution by cutting the pixel size in half, at just 2.3um!  This is called a switchable pixel size, wherein you can switch between unlocked Bin1 and Bin2 mode as you like.  Even though using Bin1 Mode will decrease your dynamic range and ADC bit depth, it is nice to have the option of making your pixel size smaller while vastly increasing your resolution.  Check out the two performance charts in the above images to compare Unlocked Bin1 with Bin2.
