The ZWO ASI662MC Planetary Camera is based on the Sony Starvis 2 IMX662 color CMOS sensor, with 2.07 million 2.9 um pixels in a 5.6 mm x 3.1 mm (1/2.8") frame.  The ASI662MC has a rolling shutter, and in high speed mode it has an output at full resolution of 107.6 frames per second, with a low read noise level of 0.8e. Â
Sony's STARVIS 2 technology offers higher sensitivity to red and near infrared (NIR) light. Â Other features include zero amp glow, a full well capacity of 38.2e, and lower dark current noise.
The ZWO ASI662MC Color Camera is equipped with a USB3.0 transmission interface and a built-in 256MB (2Gb) DDR3 cache to ensure stable and secure data transmission. Â This camera also exhibits zero amp glow, regardless of the exposure length or gain value. Â This zero amp glow feature is implemented at the hardware level and does not require software control.
Readout noise consists of pixel noise, ADC quantization noise, and circuit noise. Â The lower the read out noise the better your results will be. Â This CMOS camera has much lower readout noise than a CCD camera. Â The built-in HCG mode effectively reduces the readout noise at high gain and keeps the dynamic range at the same level it was at low gain. Â Once the gain reaches 252, the HCG Mode is automatically turned on and the dynamic rises back to 12-bit (see the camera curve chart in the image carousel above).
