The ZWO FF130 APO is a f/7.7 apochromatic refractor with a flat-field optical design...there is no need to add a field flattener to this system! It is a pleasure to work with a system that does not require a separate field flattener; it eliminates the hassle of calculating the back focus distance and figuring out which spacers you require to achieve that distance for best focus. Just add any accessories you need, focus carefully, and start shooting!
The FF130 has an aperture that is 23 mm larger than the FF107. It also has a longer focal ratio of f/7.7 that will yield more detail in slightly higher magnifications while till producing a field of view that is still suitable for all deep sky objects. The longer focal length is especially effective for planetary and larger deep sky objects when taken together with the big 130mm aperture.
The FF130 is designed with a 3+1 quadruplet lens structure. The APO optics includes two ED lenses to effectively reduce chromatic aberration and enhance clarity and sharpness. This 130 mm refractor has a big 60mm image circle that supports medium format imaging. It has a fine spot diagram with very small distortion of the peripheral stars and a central RMS radius of less than 2 microns.
This superb telescope comes with a 3.4" dual-speed rack & pinion focuser that sports a 360-degree rotator and comes with M86, M68, M54 & M48 camera adapters. The M48 adapter has a 2" female thread for installing filters. When used with the optional 0.7X focal reducer the telescope can reach a focal ratio of f/5.4 (700mm focal length), effectively reducing exposure times.
The telescope OTA is white with red accents, and is CNC machined and anodized for strength and beauty. A build in lens hood slides forward when you need protection from stray light and dew, but can be locked into place with thumb screws if you want to keep it from moving. A multi-function handle, attached to the top of a double tube ring, comes with a central slot with an M6 screw hole. A Losmandy-style dovetail plate is included, but you will need to purchase a camera specific DSLR adapter should you require one.
