Generation II of the very popular William Optics RedCat 71 has been upgraded to include an internal focuser, aka the WIFD (William Optics Internal Focus Design) focusing system. You can read more about this state-of-the-art focuser, which offers zero flexure and zero worry about the weight of accessories attached to the back end as well as better balance and so much more, below!
The beautifully designed RedCat 71 II Petzval astrograph sports four optical elements in a three group configuration (2-1-1). The doublet front group is made of FPL-53 glass, followed by one central element and a rear lens. This optical design produces a flat image plane on its own, with an image circle of 48 mm, without the need for a flattener. With an image circle this big, the RedCat 71 is compatible with full frame or APS-C sensors.
WIFD
The state-of-the-art WIFD focuser allows for fine control, significantly enhancing image clarity for both visual and photographic pursuits. The movement of the WIFD (Williams Internal Focus Design) focuser is integrated inside the main tube assembly for a tilt-free experience.
The precise internal sliding of fixed optics prevents image shift. The integrated position viewing window on the focuser gives instant verification of the graduated numerical display. The smooth rack and pinion design is incorporated into the focuser to provide super fine adjustability for critical focus. The internal movement of the optical elements is protected from inclement weather and environmental issues like dust and pollen and can’t come out of alignment. The redistribution of weight allows for better balance during imaging sessions.
Quality Included Accessories
The RedCat 71 comes with a saddle handlebar on top. This handle accepts accessories such as a finder or guide scope but is raised above the optical tube that it can serve as a carry handle. A pair of super sturdy mounting rings are also included and attach to a dual plate (included), making it easy to connect the Cat71 to a telescope mount or heavy-duty camera tripod. A Bahtinov mask, stored in the metal lens cover, makes precise focusing extra easy. You will also receive an M48 adapter and a nice set of Allen keys. The 32 mm guide scope shown in some photos is not included but can be purchased separately.
When you're not using your telescope, you can store it in the included soft carry bag!
