Stellarvue SVR102T-3FT 102 mm f/7 APO Triplet Refractor Telescope With 3" Feather Touch Focuser
This is the Stellarvue 102 mm f/7 SVR102T-3FT APO Triplet Refractor Telescope featuring the Starlight Instruments 3" Feather Touch dual speed, rack and pinion focuser (FFT3035B-A). This instrument uses the sharpest and highest contrast 102 mm objective (lens) Stellarvue have ever offered. The focuser is threaded for photographic field flatteners (optional) and has 1 1/4” and 2” compression ring visual adapters.
The SVR102T-3FT is the "Feather Touch focuser" version of this telescope. The fully baffled, lightweight carbon fiber tube produces a telescope that is very light. The OTA is 9 lb and rings weigh an additional 0.8 pounds each. The focuser unthreads resulting in a tube assembly that is only 20.25” long, well within airline carry-on size limits. Now you can easily take a world class Apo refractor on the plane with you! The certified 101.5 mm clear aperture optic is essentially perfect and comes with our interferometric test report showing it is 0.95 Strehl ratio or higher. Dedicated photographic field flatteners make this not only the best 4” visual scope but an outstanding imaging platform as well. This scope includes a Starlight Instruments 3" Feather Touch Focuser (FFT3035B-A).
This telescope also comes with heavy duty dual rings and an airline carry-on sized travel case. This is not a mass produced scope using inferior glass and sloppy mechanics. This is a truly premier 102 mm Apochromat! The Stellarvue SVR102T-3FT features a 102 mm f/7 (714 mm focal length) fully multi-coated, 3-element objective lens using an Ohara FPL-53 center element. Each lens focuses light precisely and in addition the extreme broadband coatings on each surface enhance it even further. Using it visually, the stars appear vivid and the background, velvet black. Since these coatings transmit more than 99% in the visual spectrum and far above and below it, reflections seen on CCD images are eliminated. The relatively fast speed and high Strehl ratio optics make the 80 apo Stellarvue's widest field imaging telescope, and the visual performance is simply stunning.
They offer riser blocks with or without longer rails. These allow the telescope to balance properly when camera gear is used that moves the center of balance over the focuser. The riser blocks raise the telescope 1.5" above the rail and this allows the rail to extend under the focuser and camera. The telescope can then be moved forward and balanced! Balance problems are gone!
Tube and dew shield: The SVR102T comes with an aluminum tube and dew shield that is finished in Instrument White. Fittings are black anodized aluminum. The dew shield retracts reducing the length of the telescope when being stored. Extending the dew-shield minimizes dewing of the objective at night and serves as a glare shade during the daytime. Internal tube treatment: The inside of the main tube assembly is painted "ultra flat black" and is baffled to eliminate tube wall reflections.
A Starlight Instruments Feather Touch focuser provides precision positioning and is easy to use, and it also permits effortless focusing without shaking your telescope. This is a heavy-duty rack and pinion unit designed to carry a higher capacity. The focuser is fully rotating with a wide groove for smooth and precise rotation. The Feather Touch 10:1 reduction ratio and precision of design make this possible. Since there is virtually “Zero Backlash”, focusing at even high power is done without degrading your pointing. The brake option was designed to allow users of refractor scopes the ability to gradually increase the friction between the pinion and the drawtube. In the non brake version design a thumb screw locks the pinion shaft and also increases the amount of drag on the drawtube. This system however has very little range when trying to control the drag.
The brake consists of an internal leveraged leaf spring that is tightened with a thumbscrew, thereby allowing a much greater control of the drag. The same thumbscrew is also used to lock the pinion shaft. The leveling base is used to collimate (align with the optical axis) the focuser. There are 4 screws that hold the base to the scope and 4 screws that push against the scope. These work to "push-pull" the base to adjust collimation.
Fine Focus Reduction Unit: This is the unit that allows very accurate focusing. It is typically a 10:1 planetary reduction assembly that makes focusing extremely precise and easy. Feather Touch were the original developer of this system for telescope use; it's the key to any of these focusers that allows precise focus with unparalleled reliability.
Aluminum hinged rings: The SVR102T comes with two heavy duty, hinged aluminum mounting rings. Each ring has five screws top and bottom. Threaded holes are 1/4-20. There is one center hole, two holes spaced 1.5" apart, and two holes spaced 60 mm apart. Use the optional TP14 rail for telescope mounts using the Vixen style rail or use the optional TP6 for mounts that use the larger Losmandy style rail.
Case: The SVR102T comes with a thickly padded, C9S airline carry-on case. The case holds the telescope and many optional items including a diagonal, eyepieces and a field flattener. Outside dimensions: 32” X 9 1/2” X 9 1/2”; Inside dimensions: 29 3/4” X 6 1/2” X 6 1/2”
A 102 mm (4") refractor gathers 213 times the amount of light the naked eye does. Although Dawes limit states maximum power for telescopes under good conditions is about 250 power for an 102 mm telescope, you can exceed this power on a steady night. This is a true Apochromatic triplet capable of high power when conditions permit. The only real limiting factor under steady seeing conditions is the light gathering limitation of this telescope.
