Stellarvue 130 mm F/7 APO Triplet Refractor Telescope SVA130T-3FT With 3" Feather Touch Focuser
The SVA130T-3FT is the latest version of Stellarvue's 130 mm Apochromatic Triplet Refractor telescope. The "SVA" designation means they are "advanced" in their optical and mechanical design. Two important factors make this objective lens design superior:
1. This model uses a unique lens design that provides excellent sphero-chromatic correction using an extra low dispersion center element and a very expensive Lanthanum rear element. This lens has both a unique glass combination and an extremely high optical accuracy. Includes a certified optical test report with every 130 mm telescope demonstrating its optical prowess. This lens, with its optical design and high optical accuracy outperforms less expensive lenses of commercial quality. This lens is an Air-spaced 130 mm aperture, 910 mm focal length (f/7) triplet.
2. Air-spaced lenses that are 5" and larger are often mounted in aluminum cells. These cells expand and contract many times more than the glass itself. The larger the lens is, the more important it is to have it mounted in a cell with a similar coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). Stellarvue's SVA130T-3FT objectives are therefore mounted in a steel cell for this reason. This design prevents the thermal expansion-caused distortion of the image. Using a material that closely approximates the expansion and contraction rate of the glass is much more expensive but it maintains the performance of the lens despite dropping temperatures, which an astronomer will appreciate the first time they attempt to do astro-imaging or even during visual observing over a long evening.
The Stellarvue SVA130T-3FT is a full-triplet APO utilizing a unique lens design that provides excellent sphero-chromatic correction, by virtue of its extra low dispersion center element, plus a very expensive Lanthanum rear element. Expect zero false color, high contrast, and an exceptional star test! Optical image quality is QC tested for each scope and an interferometric test report is included.
This scope includes a Starlight Instruments 3" Feather Touch Focuser (FFT3035B-A). A Starlight Instruments Feather Touch focuser provides precision positioning and is easy to use, and it also permits effortless focusing without shaking your telescope. This is a heavy-duty rack and pinion unit designed to carry a higher capacity. The focuser is fully rotating with a wide groove for smooth and precise rotation. The Feather Touch 10:1 reduction ratio and precision of design make this possible. Since there is virtually “Zero Backlash”, focusing at even high power is done without degrading your pointing. Feather Touch focusers are designed and built to last a lifetime. The brake option was designed to allow users of refractor scopes the ability to gradually increase the friction between the pinion and the drawtube. In the non brake version design a thumb screw locks the pinion shaft and also increases the amount of drag on the drawtube. This system however has very little range when trying to control the drag. The brake consists of an internal leveraged leaf spring that is tightened with a thumbscrew, thereby allowing a much greater control of the drag. The same thumbscrew is also used to lock the pinion shaft. The leveling base is used to collimate (align with the optical axis) the focuser. There are 4 screws that hold the base to the scope and 4 screws that push against the scope. These work to "push-pull" the base to adjust collimation. Fine Focus Reduction Unit: This is the unit that allows very accurate focusing. It is typically a 10:1 planetary reduction assembly that makes focusing extremely precise and easy. Feather Touch were the original developer of this system for telescope use; it's the key to any of these focusers that allows precise focus with unparalleled reliability.
The CNC mounting rings, a retracting dew shield, metal dust cap, and protective case are all American made products. A Star Diagonal is optional. Choose whether you want a scope with or without the Star Diagonal from the drop-down menu.
The Stellarvue SVA130T-3FT comes standard with a C130L Soft Case. This is Stellarvue's largest heavy-duty padded soft case. Outside dimensions are 39" X 10 1/2" X 101/2". Inside dimensions are 36" X 8" X 8". Two internal dividers are held in place by Velcro and can be easily removed.
The optional C130HC hard case is quite a case! It is made of 3/8" plywood and finished with tough PVC laminate, metal edges, and steel corner reinforcing brackets. Features include two dolly wheels to help you move it around, a spring-loaded heavy-duty handle that is flush to the case, two turn-to-open draw latches, three metal hinges and webbing straps to keep the lid from falling backwards. The case interior is lined with foam, and a custom cutout is provided for your 130. Outside dimensions are 43" x 13" x 14" and the weight (without telescope) is 28.6 pounds.
