This quality spotting scope, which is perfect for bird watching, nature & astronomy observations and more, also features a full multi-coating on all optical elements and a phase-coated roof prism. This model of the PF-80EDA comes with a case as well as caps for both ends, but does not include an eyepiece. However, the eyepiece mount is a standard 1.25" (31.7mm) and can accept a wide range of eyepieces that are designed with the magnification and field of view best suited to your intended applications.

Despite its large 80 mm objective lens, the Pentax PF-80EDA spotting scope is designed to be compact and highly portable. This compact roof prism design makes it easy to be carried to a variety of destinations, and can easily be taken on a plane.

The eyepiece section of the scope is slanted upward at a 45-degree angle, allowing subject observations over long periods of time in a natural, comfortable posture. As mentioned earlier, the PF-80EDA does not come standard with an eyepiece, but you can use good quality 1.25" eyepieces that you may already own, or, of course, purchase the Pentax 8-24 Zoom or a fixed focal length eyepiece to compliment this spotting scope.

It is so nice to know that this Pentax spotting scope itself is waterproof! By inserting a dust-proof glass element in the eyepiece mount, it is designed to be airtight for outstanding waterproof performance (equivalent to JIS Class 7, with water resistance to a depth of one meter, although it CANNOT be used under water) for dependable use even in the rain or mist. Please note that any optional eyepiece you use with the PF-80EDA may or may not be waterproof; you would need to check the specs and buy accordingly if you want a fully waterproof rig.

The interior of this spotting scope is filled with nitrogen gas to prevent fogging caused by sudden temperature changes. This assures a clear field of view even in demanding weather conditions.

Other features of the Pentax PF-80EDA body include a built-in lens hood to shield out excessive light and protect the objective lens surface, a tripod foot, allowing you to attach the scope to any standard camera tripod.

Specifications for PF-80EDA Spotting Scope Body

Model

PF-80EDA

Type

Slanted-barrel porro-prism spotting scope

Lens Construction

3 elements in 3 groups, ED glass elements
with 80mm effective aperture

Eyepiece Ring Diameter

31.7mm

Focus Range

5.8m ~ ∞

Eyepiece Ring

Collect type

Dimensions

16 in (W) x 5.3 in (H) x 3.9 in (D)
excluding control devices and protrusions

Weight

56.4 oz

Waterproof Rating

JIS Class 6

Accessories

Case
