I first saw the new TeleVue delite eyepieces when they were released at the NEAF astronomy show in the
While having a drink with Al Nagler (Ok, I was doing most of the drinking), I asked him about these
new eyepiece designs and what benefits they would have for our customers.
He explained that they were the baby brother to the Delos series of eyepieces, hence the name delite.
The design incorporated several important features that TeleVue wanted to achieve. First one was lighter weight,
second was was adjustable eyerelief, to make them easy to look through even for eyeglass wearers.
He also wanted to make sure they were compatible with the Televue Dioptrix, so those with astigmatism
would benefit as well.
Then, they had to be thinner barrels so those with binoviewers could make good use of them.
And of course a reasonable price, without comprimising any of the high quality optical standards
TeleVue is known for.
I also chatted with Al's protege, Paul Dellachaie who actually was instrumental in the design of both
the Delos and Delite eyepieces.
He said it was no easy feat designing the Delite eyepiece series, in 3 different focal lengths and making
them parfocal as well.
But Paul is a big guy, with some big ideas, and in the end he pulled it off:
