About the Vixen VMC260L - 260mm Modified Cassegrain Telescope OTA...
A superior modified Cassegrain design, the Vixen VMC260L outperforms a traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain. The Japanese made Vixen VMC260L Reflector is a true all purpose telescope. Despite its long focal length, the tube is only about 650mm (20") long. As a result, the instrument is very portable. With its large aperture the VMC260L Reflector collects enough light for serious visual and photographic applications for both planetary and deep sky observing.
The large 260mm aperture Catadioptric design of the Vixen VMC260L consists of two mirrors and and a double meniscus corrector lens design. Light coming from the object is reflected off the primary mirror (f/2.5) and then passes through the corrector in front of the secondary. This is designed to eliminate spherical aberration and field curvature while delivering superb contrast. Focusing is through primary mirror movement. The VMC260L Reflector features Dielectric Coated Mirrors for brighter sharper images.
The Vixen VMC260L has very good contrast. It is an excellent telescope for observing globular clusters, double stars and distant planets. With its open tube design, the telescope cools down quicker than a classical Cassegrain.
The Vixen VMC 260L is a quality, high performance instrument that is still quite portable and offers large light gathering power.
The Vixen VMC260L Modified Cassegrain Telescope is ideal for high grade astro imaging. The meniscus correcting lens offers a large corrected field. Light coming from the object is reflected off the primary mirror (f/2.5) and then passes through the corrector plate in front of the secondary mirror. This correcting lens is responsible for the large usable field of the VMC260L. With the optional reducer you get shorter exposure times.
The basic configuration of the Vixen VMC260L already contains a piggy-back camera holder. You can take photos both through the telescope and using a telephoto lens parallel to the main instrument, or use the VMC260L for guiding while the camera sits on top.
