It was just a matter of time really.
A couple of years ago, two brilliant ladies who live locally, here on Manitoulin Island, decided
it was time the island had it's own craft brewery.
So they started one, called the Split Rail Brewery. (The name Split rail is derived from the very common
fencing used around the island, usually by landowners and farmers).
They started a kickstarter campaign, and got lot's of local support, and on July 24th, the Split Rail
brewery company will officially open to the public.
It has been a bit of a journey for them really. Ups and downs as you might imagine, but now
it's very close to reality.
So now there are two solid reasons to visit the island:
1) Dark skies
Interestingly, one of the first beer's being issued is a Hawberry Ale.
Hawberries are a type of berry, that are unique to Manitoulin island. So of course, Andrea Smith
and Eleanor Charlton the brewery founders, went out and picked their own personally
for the first brews.
The beauty of craft beer is that it is made in small batches for the most part.
I'm looking forward to testing this one out, in the very near future, and I'll give you a full
report on it.
Strictly for your benefit of course.
I mean, how else would you know?
And how else would you know about the new Mallincam Sky Raider being released
And that's why I am here to tell you about it also.
PS Just a public service message: Please don't drink and drive, here on the island, or anywhere for that
